ARTIST STATEMENT

I am fascinated with rhythms of tight and shadow as they are accented by tones and texture.  Inspired by nature's rich vibrant colors I attempt to capture the subtle hues that appear through fleeting moments of light.

My approach to each painting is straightforward. It begins with a passion for scenes that engage the viewer's eye.  It continues with subjects that have vitality and a strong relationship to their environment.

Understanding light's effects helps me create in oils the mood I envision in my mind.

Capturing that emotion of the moment and conveying it to the viewer is a challenge I embrace. I want my quiet landscapes to radiate with luminous colors that entice the viewer, reminding them of the subtle beauty that surrounds us everyday.

The subjects I paint are an evolution of my personal history growing up on the family farm and interwoven with my everyday experiences living among rolling hillsides. Abandoned structures and bucolic landscapes reflect America's rural heritage. By preserving these images I hope my paintings will resonate to future generations of art lovers the beauty of this land.
