Barbara Neville is a native of Wilmington Delaware where she currently resides.  She attended the University of Delaware and Moore College of Art in Philadelphia .  She has worked and studied with various artists from her area including Domenic DiStephano, Tom Bostell, Henry Meier, Carolyn Anderson, and Janet Hammond, but was most influenced by Chadds Ford artist Rea Redifer.  Two workshops with noted artist Charles Reid helped to develop her use of color and sense of composition.

She is equally comfortable using watercolor, pastel and oil.  Watercolor is used as a translucent medium allowing the white paper to shine through in some areas of the painting. In other areas she shows how watercolor can be reworked to achieve certain affects. In pastel painting, she uses very soft pastel sticks and builds up the color many times, often with complementary colors to achieve a rich velvety luminescence.  Pastel has become a favorite medium for the artist. Her subject matter can be almost anything including landscapes, people, still life or flowers.  The way light plays on the subject is a significant feature in the artist's work.

Barbara has exhibited in numerous shows in the Delaware Valley and has won awards in various juried shows. She is a member of the Chester County Art Association where she won an award in an annual show. She is also a member of the Delaware Foundation of Visual Arts (DFVA), and the Philadelphia Water Color Club where she won the Zimmerman Award in1982.  In 1994, she was accepted in the Pastel Society of America'sAnnual juried show in New York and received the Pastel Society of North Florida award.

In April of 1996, she created a series of exclusive note cards for Longwood Gardens located in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania . This venture was so successful that in the weeks that followed she launched a full-scale note card business that now incorporates her art into a form that reaches a national audience. At the present time there are 65

note card designs not including the Longwood exclusive designs.
