If you have a need for the excitement sports, you might be interested in checking out the newest show of Jean Diver at Hardcastle Gallery this May 7th - May 29th, 2010.  An Opening Reception with the artist and the athletes will be held on Thursday, May 13th from 6-8 pm.

Poetry in Motion, her new sporting art exhibit at Hardcastle Gallery in Centerville, DE, consists of paintings, as well as, small editions of digital imagery.    An exciting mixture of mylar, metals, and mirrored surfaces are painted and digitized with archival ink. The body of work is displayed in various ways from plexiglass, lightboxes, to hard metal and mirror mounted on wood surfaces.  The digital editions are sleekly displayed for the buyer to chose size options and are in limited editions and various prices.

Poetry in Motion, is what Diver would describe as what sport “is.” This new exhibit is not only inspired by sport but also by “broadsides” which are literature and illustration combined. Diver’s new work is a combination of graphics, painting, poetry and computer technology.

Professional horse race jockey, Chip Miller will represent spring, professional horse racing rider, Jody Petty will represent fall, and John Light, will be the summer motorcycle road racer subject.

The winter athlete, retired ice hockey player, and recently inducted into the hall of fame, Dave Schultz, is the featured athlete of the Poetry in Motion show.   Although Dave Schultz, lead the NHL in goal scoring at various points in his career on the Philadelphia Flyers ice hockey team, he was not known for that. Schultz’s job was “the enforcer” on the Flyers team. His powerful right punch gave him the nickname “The Hammer,” and his fights on the ice captured television viewers attention, during his career. Schultz became known as the team leader of the “Broad Street Bullies.” Schultz and the Broad Street Bullies of the Philadelphia Flyers generated a buzz like no other and their journey to win the Stanley Cup Trophy for two seasons, is still talked about today. With 227,000 views on youtube for his linebrawl with Dave ”Tiger” Williams, and 17 videos of Schultz fights viewed by over a half a million people, Schultz is obviously still looked upon for inspiration 35 years later.

All the athletes in the show will be signing the artwork as well.

“I hope the work in this show inspires the viewer,” said Diver. ” I have experienced both team and individual sport personally and definitely feel a parallel with the discipline of competitive sport.  Sport, like art, is a
